FPS Year Summary - 2005

Battlefield 2 was another popular warfare game in the series, this time in the modern era. Players can take control of 30+ vehicles to engage in major conflicts with over 100 players in some of the largest online battles on the PC. It features immense, richly detailed, destructible environments, from city streets to remote forests and each map adjusts in scale to support the number of players in the world, providing the ideal vehicle-to-player ratio and an optimized game play experience. Brothers In Arms continued in the World War II trend with true stories and historical events through real battlefields meticulously recreated. It focuses on realistic team strategy and tactics rather than the faster paced run and gun gameplay of the Medal of Honor series. The game stresses the effectiveness of fire and maneuver tactics, known as the Four Fs "Find, Fix, Flank, Finish" actually used by the military during World War II. It is nearly impossible to run and gun your way through the missions and using the tactics is absolutely necessary, just as in reality. F.E.A.R. was a nice-looking horror shooter made by classic developer Monolith where a special forces team takes down supernatural forces like a little girl in this game probably inspired by japanese horror movies like The Ring. It uses a form of slowed-down "reflex time" to make Hong Kong style action pieces. You could use close range melee combat, and the A.I. was superb - enemies can duck to travel under crawlspaces, jump through windows, vault over railings, climb ladders, and push over large objects to create cover. Various opponents may act as a team, taking back routes to surprise the player, using suppressive fire or taking cover if under fire.

Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy was one of a few games to trend on the use of mind powers to be able throw items and use Havok or PhysX physics engines to affect gameplay after Half-Life's 2 popular gravity gun. The game's hero used physic powers such as pyrokenesis, telekenesis, mind control, mind drain and aura view to directly effect the game's environments, enemies or both. The Suffering 2: Ties That Bind continued a fun horror shooter series of a death-row inmate from his battles in prison with demonic enemies in the first game to the inner city slums. The game has a morality meter which affects game events depending on how you act and the protagonist's inner demon is released if you take the evil road. Stubbs The Zombie in Rebel Without A Pulse was an enjoyable change in that you played as a zombie in a humorous take on the growing popularity of this genre of game. You could use parts of your zombie body as weapons like explosive gut grenades, a remote-controlled severed hand, and flatulence powerful enough to overtake any platoon. Who wouldn't like to turn their foes into fellow zombies? Hehe.

WarRock is a F2P (Free to play) FPS first made for the Korean market where these type of games are popular in internet cafes. Some of these F2P games will use in-game advertising or purchasable extras to generate income. It's a class-based warfare game with vehicles like Battlefield 2 but with lower system requirements. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas followed up the extremely popular Vice City game in the series with more controversy in the infamous hidden sex game uncovered by a fan. The developer was fined and forced to retract copies from stores and replace them with the offending content removed. The game itself had three huge cities and a more believable sandbox world where people went about their lives. You can customize your character more and perform many side missions and mini-games. FPS Creator was a new all-in-one tool for aspiring fans to make their own FPS games from the makers of the Dark Basic engine. It uses a visual interface so no extensive programming knowledge is required and there are theme packs addons to be used for different themes of FPS games.

Advanced Battlegrounds: The Future Of Combat / Chrome Gold Edition Techland / DreamCatcher [top]

This improved gold edition of the Polish developer's Techland game Chrome is being released under the name Advanced Battlegrounds in North America as presumably the original did not sell well there so doesn't have a good enough name recognition factor. This edition offers all kinds of goodies besides eight additional single and Multiplayer maps. There is an official Soundtrack CD, a Chrome mouse pad as well as the revised mission and map editor including new, extensive guidance in the video format. Many challenges await in the new Multiplayer challenges (for up to 32 players), even if the required solo missions are played to the end and there is improved AI in the computer opponents. There are also new vehicles.

Area 51 (2005) Midway Games Austin / Midway Games [top]

This is a remake of the original popular arcade game which also had a PC version released in 1996, which was a rail shooter (i.e. your path through the game was predetermined and you just shot what came in your way) whereas this game is a fully 3D FPS game where you can go wherever you want. The U.S. Army has received a distress signal from Area 51 where a viral outbreak has just shut down the research facility and the automated quarantine procedures have locked all scientific and military personnel inside. A small Special Forces unit including Specialist Ethan Cole of the HAZMAT (hazardous materials) Division is sent to investigate. As Cole, players delve into the massive levels within the confines of Area 51, only to discover a deadly mutagenic side effect of the virus that controls the minds of those infected, as well as an ancient alien colony buried beneath the facility. Players will uncover the truth behind chilling conspiracies as they come across the remnants of the extraterrestrial crash at Roswell, alien autopsies, and the faked lunar landing. Cole must solve the enigma of Area 51 before the viral mutagen is released and irrevocably mutates all life on Earth. Cast in the lead role is David Duchovny, star of the ultimate conspiracy-theory television show, The X-Files, who lends his instantly recognizable voice to AREA 51's lead character, Specialist Ethan Cole, a special forces soldier specializing in hazardous materials investigations. Powers Boothe, who currently appears in the HBO mini-series Deadwood, provides the voice of Major Bridges, while shock rocker Marilyn Manson delivers an unforgettable performance as Edgar, the gray alien. AREA 51 boasts a rich online experience of up to 16 players. Players' online experiences are enhanced with game modes such as Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, and Humans vs. Alien Mutant Team Deathmatch. In October 2008 it was released for free in an ad-supported version by the United States Air Force.

Boiling Point: Road To Hell / Xenus Deep Shadows / Russobit-M / Atari [top]

Boiling Point: Road to Hell is set in the intense tropical heat of the South American jungle, where players take Saul Meyers, a decorated Legionnaire, way beyond the limit of any man's patience. Saul has reached his point of no return - his life threatened, his family compromised, he's a desperate man, ready to take matters to the ultimate extreme to protect the life of his daughter, Lisa. Set in the South American jungle, this massive gaming world spans 625 square Km (25 km x 25 km) bigger than the city of Chicago), and is populated throughout with friend and foe. Asynchronous loading of required resources creates a seamless game world with no levels and no loading times! The non-linear plot gives the player the chance to choose exactly how they play the game. Guns blazing, or sneaking around? Rescue Lisa, or leave her to rot? The choice is yours. There's hundreds of NPC's to interact with, all of which behave differently and offer different types of information depending on what you ask and how you ask it. Every encounter and every interaction within the game directly affects your standing and reputation in the eyes of the 6 NPC factions, with potentially dire or wonderful consequences resting on a knife edge of decision. Many vehicles can be bought, stolen or hijacked to help you travel around the massive environment or to get you out of trouble fast, including cars, trucks, helicopters, boats and even a tank. The game was released in a buggy state but several months later a large 200MB patch finally made the game live up to most of its potential.

Brothers In Arms 2: Earned In Blood Gearbox Software / Ubi Soft Entertainment [top]

Six months doesn't seem like a lot of time to churn out a vastly improved sequel, but Gearbox is sure aiming to try. Basically, they held back in the first game in terms of enemy artificial intelligence, because they were afraid that having players learn a whole new way of playing first-person shooters would be tough enough without having to worry about a cutthroat opponent. The German AI is a lot more intelligent than before, and it will constantly try to shift positions to prevent from being flanked. It will also spot opportunities, like an unguarded flank on your side, and move to exploit them. Earned in Blood will be closely tied in to the events in the first game as approximately 25 percent of the game lets you take part in some moments from the first game, but this time from a different perspective. You'll play as Sergeant Joe "Red" Hartsock, one of the team members of Sergeant Matt Baker again. However, this doesn't mean that you'll rehash the exact same moments from the first game, as Harstock was usually dispatched to perform different tasks during missions. The rest of the game, however, picks up immediately after the events of Hill 30 and will carry the story forward. The sequel will be set in a lot more urban-type settings, as well. If you think of Road to Hill 30 covering the first half of the D-Day campaign, Earned in Blood will cover the second half, when Allied units fought to secure the Norman countryside, to liberate French villages and towns, and to wipe out pockets of German resistance. This means a lot more war-torn settings to run around in, and the environments will be more complex than before, giving you more room, as well as options, to maneuver. Your AI teammates will draw upon thousands of different lines of context-sensitive dialogue, and they'll have different things to say as the game progresses. There's new shader effects, so now you can see sunlight glisten around the edges of a leaf and improved texture resolution. There's also new types of destructible environments, and a number of new weapons in the game as well, including a mortar that you can order your squad to man while you direct its fire, and new types of machine guns and submachine guns. There's a new cooperative skirmish gameplay mode that will let you and a buddy play together in a campaign mission, or you can create your own battle by selecting an existing map and editing the parameters, like having you play on offense or defense. You'll even have a chance to play from the German point of view in skirmish mode.

Brothers In Arms: Road To Hill 30 Gearbox Software / Ubisoft [top]

Brothers in Arms is the most realistic and authentic WWII shooter ever. While other WWII games have sugarcoated the war experience, Brothers in Arms is based on a true story and will immerse gamers into the gritty, uncensored and emotionally-charged side of war. The game puts you in the shoes of Sgt. Matt Baker, a D-Day paratrooper squad leader, and asks you to lead the squad as you balance their lives with the success of the mission. The true stories and historical events you experience on your perilous journey take you through real battlefields meticulously recreated from aerial reconnaissance images, US Army Signal Corps photos and eye-witness accounts of war-torn Normandy. Players of all skill levels can battle their way through this intense experience because of Brothers in Arms innovative and accessible command and control system. The game's innovative take on the shooter genre puts you in charge of a squad of smart, almost humanlike soldiers that you lead in battle instead of having you run around lone-wolf style like you do in so many shooters. It's up to you, as squad leader, to use real squad tactics to destroy the enemy, even while you are busy ducking bullets. The enemy AI though is a bit weak as the Germans are a fairly docile lot and don't really exhibit maneuver tactics, at least not on the scale of what you do to them. This translates into a puzzlelike experience at times, as you essentially have to suppress an enemy position and figure out how to flank it over and over again.

Call of Duty 2 Infinity Ward / Activision [top]

Call of Duty 2 lets players experience four individual soldier stories as they overcome insurmountable odds in multiple campaigns. Players have the freedom to follow each of the four storylines through for the ultimate character-driven experience, or they can engage in the historic battles chronologically for quick hitting action. Call of Duty 2's new engine and A.I. technology set the stage for authentic squad combat and astonishing action. Concealment can be key as battlefield smoke or even deployed smoke grenades cloud visibility. Weather effects such as the dusty sandstorms of North Africa and whiteout blizzard conditions of Russia, for example, will keep soldiers glued to their bunkers. The team has also employed a state-of-the-art Battle Chatter System that brings the action to life as squad-mates bark out context-sensitive updates in real-time to players through an advanced A.I. system. The player can crouch and lie prone, and is able to scale low walls and other obstacles. The player can carry two firearms, which can be swapped with those left on the battlefield, and also carries both fragmentation and smoke grenades. The player can use a gun's iron sights to aim more accurately. A compass on the heads-up display (HUD) shows both friends and foes, and objective markers to indicate locations the player must reach, areas to defend, or enemy cannons or tanks that the player must plant explosives on to disable. Emplaced weapons such as machine guns and flak cannons are available in some locations to take out enemy forces. In addition, some missions place the player in control of a tank. The player has a set of binoculars. While it is generally ignored during infantry-limited gameplay, it is vital to the long-range use of the 88 mm guns, Crusader tanks and one of the missions in which the player must direct artillery fire to defend a town. It is also important for scouting, though most of the game takes place in personal, close combat situations reducing the importance of this tactic. Should the player take severe damage, the screen will turn red and the sound of the character's heartbeat will become loud; this indicates the player's health is low. The player must find a way to stay out of fire to recover before entering battle again or else will die and have to restart at the last checkpoint. Health is only restored through automatic recharging when the player is not taking fire.

Chameleon Illusion Softworks Slovakia / Silver Wish Games / Cenega [top]

This is a third-person stealth action game, somewhat like a Hitman-clone, developed by (now defunct) Illusion Softworks Slovakia, published by Take's budget label Silver Wish Games. It's built on an updated LS3D engine from Mafia, and allows to switch to FPS view. It's set around year 1990, when the main hero works for a terrorist. It has a strong story and first mission is set in Belfast, where player has to use microphone to overhear enemies, remote camera or lock-pick for opening doors. You will become a chameleon, an agent without a past who is able to stealthily infiltrate any place in the world. Searches for killers take you to various places locations - the poor Moldova, Afghanistan in the midst of dangerous wild fighting between the Soviets and the Mujahideen and to Lebanon, where the Israeli army carried a crack down on Arab terrorists. The gameplay is mainly focused on stealth and fighting. To meet the challenges, you will be using spy equipment (a device for night vision, binoculars, minicam, jimmy or camera). Some of the necessary gadgets are picked up automatically before a mission, while some of them can be added according to the player's taste or game style. Of course, there are weapons including pistols (i.e. Desert Eagle, Colt 1911), machine guns (i.e. MP5, AK-47, MiniUzi, Dragunov) and even mini-crossbows. However, the player can choose an action approach in the mission if the proper gadgets are available. Enemies can be tough so using stealth is sometimes more viable than shooting. Paralyze or choke can be used to dispose of an enemy to surpass critical passages in the game. The player decides what weapons to use and how depending on the situation. Sometimes a head shot is the faster solution, but it should be chosen very wisely or it may mean the big difference between life and death.

Cold War: Behind The Iron Curtain Mindware Studios / DreamCatcher Interactive [top]

Chaser Jones, a journalist for a large American newspaper, is as much a newsman as Indiana Jones is an archeologist. Part bloodhound, investigative journalist, war correspondent and adventurer, Chaser always winds up in the middle of the action, putting his life on the line to grab the 'scoop' before it grabs him. This time, on the trail of a hot story, Chaser arrives right in the middle of the communist USSR at the height of the Cold War. While there, he comes across a plot to sabotage the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, but soon discovers that Chernobyl is just the beginning. He's on the trail of a far-reaching conspiracy, which might be too much for one journalist to handle. During his dangerous adventures, Chaser has to draw on all his abilities and experience gained during previous assignments. Among them, stealth plays a leading role: Chaser is able to move quietly and furtively, he can slip behind enemies unnoticed, ducks for cover behind various objects, hides in the shadows. He knows how to disable alarms, pick locks or confound security cameras. When he gets into a tight spot he's good with his gun, though he'd much rather try avoiding and outsmarting the enemy than come face to face with them. Chaser's investigations take him to places such as Chernobyl and Baikonur, where he must summon all his strength, not just to get his scoop, but merely to survive.

Day Of Defeat Source Valve / Activision [top]

This product was first available for purchase as part of the Counter-Strike Source retail package as well as through Steam for those who bought the Half-Life 2 Collectors Edition retail product or through Steam online ordering of Silver and Gold packages. Activision held the rights to the original publishing of Day Of Defeat, not Valve, but it was supposed to be part of the Steam Source packages but is only scheduled to be out many months after the HL2 packages were released. The delay was due to the decision to rework all of the original content of Day of Defeat. It was used by Valve to present new design features on the Source engine, such as high dynamic range rendering and cinematic effects. The game itself revolves around two teams, the US Army and the German Wehrmacht, each with access to six player classes, fighting in a variety of scenarios inspired by World War II engagements in the European Theatre of 1944. Player characters cannot take much damage, and in some circumstances can be killed by a single bullet, forcing players to make use of cover to stay alive. When a player character dies, that player starts a short countdown for reinforcements. When the timer runs out, the player and any friendly players killed in that time respawn into the game at their insertion point as the next wave of troops. All weapons in the game have realistic limits to their use: machine guns must be deployed to maintain accurate fire or to be reloaded, rocket launchers must be shouldered to be aimed and fired, sniper rifles are most accurate when used with the scope and grenades not "cooked off" before release may be easily fled or even thrown back by the opposition. The game was initially released with four maps, although later updates have introduced five new official levels and eight community produced maps supported by Valve. The game's levels are based after real battles in the Allied campaigns in Italy, Sicily and France, such as the Falaise pocket or the beach landings of Operation Shingle at Anzio, as well as entirely fictional battles. Combat can take place in several environments, such as city streets, buildings and sewers. Each online game can sustain a maximum of 32 players.

Doom 3: Resurrection Of Evil Nerve Software / id Software [top]

The Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil expansion was farmed out to Nerve Software. Through the discovery of a timeless and evil artifact you now hold the powers of Hell in your hands, and the demons have come to hunt you down and take it back. Following the events of DOOM 3, new characters include Vulgars (same as Imps only faster and they do a lot more wall crawling), Bruisers (half mechanical monsters with computer monitors for their mouths, they have a tendency to hide as wall monitors and then bust through the walls after you), The Forgotten (same as the Lost Souls in Classic Doom), and Hell Hunters (like floating legless HellKnights, these monsters have the ability to warp time). New weapons/items include the Double Barrel Shotgun, The Grabber (gravity gun), The Artifact (allows the player to manipulate time by slowing the world down and also increases damage and makes you invincible), Haste and Invulnerability powerups, and Environment suits will have flashlights mounted on them. New MultiPlayer features include four new MP maps - two are in Hell, one in the ancient civilization, then another base type map. The maps will be considerably larger than DOOM 3's. You play as a Combat Engineer, not the Doom 3 Marine, and travel to Site 1, an abandoned base which is the first UAC Mars expedition, and contains remains of an ancient Martian civilization (looks like Quake 1), to investigate a distress signal. Later you also travel to Phobos via sky trams. You are to accompany a scientist called Dr Elizabeth McNeil, former associate of Betruger, and keep an eye on her. Betruger has turned into a demon and called three 'Hunter' demons to reclaim the artifact. These demons are bosses and you battle them separately for their special powers, including 'Helltime'. In the end, you battle Betruger in Hell.

Dreadnought Torc Interactive [top]

Torc Interactive and AMD have teamed up to offer gamers and enthusiasts a powerful demonstration of AMD64 64-bit gaming. Today and tomorrow's games such as Torc Interactive's Dreadnought demo increasingly depend on the processing power of the CPU to provide the performance for realistic world effects. AMD64 and The AMD Athlon™ 64 FX processor provide what gamers need to get realistic physics, artificial-intelligence (A.I.), character and world animations, and the advanced shadow and lighting determinations that take immersive gaming to the next level. It showcases the Instinct Engine but uses only mininal A.I. Of particular note are the: huge number of interactive objects, including destructible environments, incredible sharpness of the ultra hi-res textures, 'tentacle' gun as an alternative weapon and means of interacting with the game world, astounding numbers of particles affected by the world physics, and Sin City-style post-processing effects when using the adrenaline mode feature in 64-bit. There's 5 modes: 64-bit executables and high detail content, 64-bit executables and low detail content, 32-bit executables with low detail content, 32-bit executables that are Large Address Aware, and Paintball - uses the selected executable and associated content detail, but turns off in-game gore and replaces it with colourful paintball decals.

Elite Warriors: Vietnam Nfusion / Bold Games [top]

This game comes from New Jersey-based nFusion Interactive, whose previous work includes the Deadly Dozen and the Cabela's hunting games. In Elite Warriors: Vietnam, soldiers will operate in small groups deep in the Southeast Asian jungle. Top-secret missions include rescuing downed pilots, capturing enemies, and plotting targets for air strikes. Gamers will lead Green Berets and Montagnard tribesmen into Laos across several multiple-objective missions. The game was developed under the tutelage of Major John L. Plaster, author and decorated Vietnam veteran. "This is the way we actually operated, they got it right," Plaster said. Excerpts and photos from Plaster's book, Secret Commandos, will be included with the game. Each mission in Elite Warriors: Vietnam was developed with the direct assistance of this former Studies and Observations Group (SOG) member and best-selling author who served three full combat tours as a recon team leader and led small 6-8 man recon teams on covert missions along the Ho Chi Minh Trail in Laos. In the game, you will fight along side Green Beret commandoes as you conduct classified missions deep in Southeast Asia. By using patrol techniques still being used today in Iraq and Afghanistan you will rescue downed pilots, ambush convoys, seize enemy prisoners, and discover targets for air attacks.

F.E.A.R.: First Encounter Assault & Recon Monolith Productions / Sierra [top]

This FPS from acclaimed developer Monolith, the same company responsible for titles like TRON 2.0 and the No One Lives Forever games, is a scary supernatural action one using a great-looking state-of-the-art new game engine. The element of horror revolves around an image of a spectral girl always appearing when least expected for a few fleeting moments. A paramilitary force infiltrates a multi billion dollar aerospace compound taking hostages, but issuing no demands. The government responds by sending in its best special operations teams, only to have them obliterated. With U.S. Special Forces in over their heads, the Commander in Chief turns to his final option: you. You've been trained to handle the inexplicable, armed with experimental high tech weaponry, and given full executive authority to end the crisis by any means necessary. In the stunning graphics, you can make out the pores on a character's face, as well as the immense amount of detail in his uniform. Shooting a hanging light fixture in a hallway results in the light swinging around wildly, sending shadows in every direction. Thanks to a new physics system, simple items like boxes or a small radio can all be interacted with and kicked around, adding to the feeling that you're in a real environment. Leading the team is Rowdy Betters (your unit coordinator), Jin Sun-Kwon, a marksman who's not only an expert with her rifle, but also has enhanced hearing that lets her hear enemies before they can hear her. Spen Jankowski provides support, and Douglas Holiday is the demolition expert with the additional ability to pick up objects and get impressions about their owners. Sometimes you'll have to fight alongside your teammates. The player can call upon a "bullet-time" ability which slows down time around him and is realised with impressive visual and aural effects by the game engine. The multiplayer component includes mainstay gameplay modes, such as deathmatch, team deathmatch, capture the flag, and last man standing. "Control" and "Conquer All" gametypes were later added through a patch.

Gun Neversoft / Activision [top]

From the Tony Hawk developer comes this free-roaming third-person action-adventure based on Cormac McCarthy's seminal novel of Western plundering and pillaging (not to mention scalping) - Blood Meridian. The goal for Neversoft was simple: to recreate the Old West as accurately as possible and to drape an exciting, enthralling and violent freeform game over it. You play as Colton Wright, a block of a man with a suddenly complicated past. Our demonstration began with the game's opening scene where Colton's father is shot down and, before passing on in elaborate cowboy fashion, gives Colton a coin and tells him that he's not his real father and that he should go find a whore named Betty in Dodge City. There's plenty of sub-quests alongside the main story missions. You might find yourself raiding an opium den or helping the sheriff defend a stage coach, for example, or panhandling for gold, gambling for cash, or hunting anything from bison and coyotes to wolves, cougars and bears. As far as getting around goes you'll spend most of your time on horseback, but you can also ride stage coaches and trains and even sail in canoes. Weapons include your standard pistols, rifles and shotguns plus tomahawks, dynamite and bows and arrows - and there are novel ways to use them. Why not tie a stick of dynamite to an arrow, say, to deal your enemy a doubly violent death blow? There's lots of melee fighting to be done too, and expect plenty of broken bar stools, smashed saloon windows and an awful lot of blood and guts. The tomahawk comes in handy for scalping your enemies - and you can make a point of collecting the brainhats of everyone you meet, if you like. But for the most part you'll probably want to stick to your guns. Once you've taken down enough enemies, preferably with nice clean headshots, you can activate Quick Draw mode - this switches the perspective to first person and allows you to take out your enemies before they have time to reach for their holster.

Half-Life 2: Lost Coast Valve [top]

Originally planned as a section of the Highway 17 chapter of Half-Life 2, Lost Coast is a single-player level custom-created to showcase High-Dynamic Range lighting (HDR) in the Source engine, and is available free to all owners of HL2 through a download from their Steam application (over 300Mb). HDR simulates how the eye reacts when moving from a dark area to a bright one, or vice versa. Day Of Defeat Source also used the effect. It starts with Gordon Freeman falling into the water on an unspecified shore, with a small town on a mountaintop visible in the distance. The gameplay is quite short as it can be completed in about 15 minutes. You're given an option to enable special developer commentary when the level starts, and if you turn it on, you'll see little orange chat bubbles spinning in varying locations. Hitting the "Use" key on any of these bubbles starts an audio track, where different Valve developers talk about the technology, game design, characters, or other elements of the demo. As a technology showcase, it's system requirements are very high so make sure your system is up to it.

King Kong, Peter Jackson's Montpelier / UbiSoft Entertainment [top]

Acclaimed game creator Michel Ancel and the Montpellier studio (creators of the overlooked masterpiece Beyond Good & Evil), collaborate with triple Academy Award winning filmmaker Peter Jackson and visual-effects company Weta Ltd. to develop Peter Jackson's King Kong, a video game that will capture the imagination, vision and emotion of the epic film. Delve deeper into the film experience through alternative viewpoints designed to immerse the player into the action and truly "feel" the tension of the adventure. It has unprecedented alternating gameplay - you battle for survival on Skull Island in first-person as Jack Driscoll AND experience the staggering power of King Kong in third-person taking on massive beasts. By integrating Weta assets directly into the game engine, and taking a true cinematic approach, from both a visual and audio perspective, players are thrust directly onto the Skull Island where the dark jungles, over-sized environment and lurking danger become reality. Each team member plays a crucial role and complements each other with valuable skills and abilities. The player relies on them and vice-versa to succeed. The unique resource management system keeps the action seamless and plausible while keeping items, weapons and assets. King Kong is one of the most powerful of all the creatures on Skull Island and players will learn first-hand what it means to be feared, respected and dominant. Kong will use both his agility and his raw, brute strength by any means necessary to battle enemies and navigate though the perils of Skull Island. Journey through the explosive action of all the key movie moments, as Jack and Kong, and even explore the beautifully-rendered mysterious jungle environments not seen in the film. Intense and unbelievable battles with all creatures featured in the film challenge players' nerves and skills in fighting the savage beasts created by Weta - some of which are exclusive to the game.
Two different versions of King Kong were released for the PC: the original retail release which compares to the PS2/Gamecube and other current generation consoles, and a so-called "Gamer's Edition" only available through online purchases or OEM disks which features the improved models and textures from the X360 version and allows for even higher gameplay resolutions.

My Worst Day WW2 Rune Trollebo [top]

This is a shareware game using the 3DState game engine. It is February 1944, German troops still occupy most of Europe. As a saboteur you are sent into Norway and put on the middle of a large island, your main target is to destroy two big German cannons, which are a part of the German coastal defence in occupied Norway. You are not sent out on 10 or 15 standard linear, scripted missions. No, it is more like a real military mission: You are sent into the enemy territory without knowing too much about where the enemies are, and what they are up to. The intelligence is sparse, close to none. And you will see that you have to find out what is the biggest threat, and start your "mission" from there. You have to kill many enemies on the island to be sure of success, and to be able to leave the island. If you play for increasing your score, you can try to hunt down most of the soldiers on the island. This game can be played in standard game mode, save and get killed, then reload. In the very addictive and fun arcade mode, you start out with 3 lives, and can gain more life by collecting medicine, in the form of brandy bottles. There is also a Hi-Score table.

Operation Matriarchy MADia / Buka Entertainment [top]

In this Russian developed FPS, a planet-wide epidemic caused by an extraterrestrial virus totally changed all women of the planet of Velian. Their bodies transformed to become parts of collective intelligence, presumably controlled by some non-humanoid creatures. The Velian men proved to be resistant to the virus, but they lost their status of free intelligent beings and only existed as suppliers of biomaterial for further gene experimentation and as parts of complex biomechanical systems. The society became now a kind of matriarchal hive. The Galactic Federation lost several dozens of transports due to enemy attacks in the second half of the 24th century. A deep analysis of the situation made it clear that the aggressor comes from the Velian star system. It is there that the Federation is sending an expeditionary corps to destroy the hostile civilization that threatens the very existence of the human race and to investigate the fate of the missing colonists. You are a trooper of the government army sent with the expeditionary force to attack Velian. As you accomplish missions given to you at the headquarters, you get new opportunities in selection of weapons and military equipment. Each mission will also get you closer to the secret of the origin of the Velian anomaly of the human race. The hero can use several types of the armored space suit for short-time flights with diverse attached implements. There are 16 types of fantastic deadly weapons, 18 intensive levels, and the games uses rag doll technology and a true damage system (location of the hit affects the damage type). It seems as though the game was rush-released in an unfinished state. Unbelievably, it had NO IN-GAME MUSIC (the only track being the catchy main menu theme). The in-game sounds were incomplete, used incorrectly and varied wildly in volume. Plus the English text was poorly translated and often made no sense at all. A huge fan-made patch added: a complete in-game soundtrack (22 new pieces of music), re-balanced and new sound FX (volumes have been corrected and new sounds added, including weapons), completely re-written in-game script and objective messages, newly recorded voices for cutscenes, and numerous tweaks/fixes for various issues.

Another expansion for Postal² came out after Apocalypse Weekend, but this time not made by the original developper RWS. It's made by russians for russians. Unfortunately, the game is based on the original Postal² and don't have the dismember feature.
You play in a fully open map since the beginning, and have to accomplish some missions (one after one) in 3 days, but those days are longer than Postal²'s. And since the game is set in Russia, get ready for cloudy weather and fog everyday. Contrary to Postal², this addon has music of real band, principally ska/punk. And besides new textures, maps, and missions, the game has new weapons such as a slingshot and socks (those last are just the scissors with new texture).
About the story, well the only thing I understood is Postal Dude had a sex operation...

Previously known as Deus Ex: Clan Wars, action takes place in an Asian communist country where a civil war is taking place. The title comes from military jargon for a complete system shutdown of all internal electrical and bio-mechanical systems generally created by an EMP blast or similar electrical disturbance in the local vicinity. Players live the fantasy of being an elite special operations combat soldier with access to the most high-tech weaponry, gadgets and vehicles, presented with all the realism, emotional intensity, and valor found in the popular "War Games" shooter genre. The game features a robust online multiplayer experience with 16 players and voice over IP support - classic and new multiplayer modes are offered. An arsenal of unique weapons and secondary items including the "Riot Wall" and the "Kicker" physics gun yield a variety and depth of gameplay never before realized, especially when leveraged in multiplayer play. Vehicles serve as functional obstacle solving tools, for rescue attempts and as weapons in both single and multiplayer gameplay. Use Biomods to customize, upgrade and exploit the superhuman powers of your character. Build an emotional connection to your comrades in battle; during the missions you have the power to rescue, heal and protect them. The wide variety in mission pacing ranges from frenetic action of battlefield chaos to tactical infiltration style missions. There are 11 missions spanning across 16 maps including the dilapidated Opera House, the twisting jungle at the city perimeter, a Buddhist Temple converted, and sprawling urban Wasteland.

Quake 4 Raven Software / Activision [top]

Announced as being in development back in 2001, the first true info and images were releasd in a PC Gamer article in Sep/2004. id though has handed the reigns over to Raven Software, developers of Heretic, Hexen, SOF2 and Jedi Academy. Whenever id makes new technology, Raven is in on it from the beginning and using the Doom 3 engine enabled them to concentrate on the single and multiplayer game elements rather than the engine. Quake IV will actually form a direct sequel to Quake II and you'll renew combat against the cybernetic Strogg just moments after the original game ended with the defeat of the Makron. However this time you won't be fighting alone and you'll be battling alongside fellow marines who Raven are certain will prove more than just Strogg-fodder this time around. The battle is set to commence on both interior and exterior levels across the Strogg homeworld and of course there'll be the classic weapons, featuring returning favourites like the blaster, machinegun, nailgun and shotgun. Most intriguingly of all, Quake IV is set to feature vehicular combat for the very first time. Multiplayer modes are Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Tourney, Capture the Flag, Arena CTF and DeadZone. Notable new additions to play are the ability to send shots through the teleporters and the advancement of the game physics provided by the new technology including the ability to bounce grenades and napalm fire off of jump-pads. Crouch slides give players the ability to maintain speed by sliding around corners. Ramp Jumps allow players to gain extra height from jumping as they reach the top of an inclined object. You can use hover tanks, a tram, and mechs (remote-controlled giant robots). During the game, some of the soldiers and commanders you meet will give you orders and missions, and you also receive radio commands too. In some parts of the game you receive help from fellow soldiers, which proves handy because they usually do a pretty good job in assisting. The A.I. enemies are also fairly formidable; they attempt to evade your fire, as well as physically jump at you from ceilings, floors, and walls.

Rainbow Six 3 MP#2: Iron Wrath UbiSoft [top]

This expansion pack that was on the drawing board for almost 2 years has been released for free (maybe to make up for the cancellation of the PC version of Ghost Recon :p ). It includes a new 7-mission campaign, 3 "classic" R6 missions, 6 new real-world weapons, and 5 new multiplayer modes. 1) In Virus Uploaded mode, one team has a virus disk and has to either pass off the disk to a teammate, or upload the virus onto a computer. If they hold onto the disk for too long, they become visible through the walls until they die, or pass on the disk. 2) Intruder is a super fun gametype... One team has to defend the terminals, while the other team has to destroy them. It takes about 25 seconds to destroy a terminal, unless you are the intruder. The intruder can do it in about 3, AND the intruder has the same skin on as the defender, except he has a black helmut. So the intruder becomes very valuable to the attacking team, and the defending team really must kill him soon. The attacking team must destroy all 3 terminals to win. 3) Free Backup is another really cool gametype, where you get to take up to 3 AIs as your bodyguards. They will just be sitting there on the ground, and you can activate them. They will then shoot at any enemies you can see. Really fun. 4) In Limited Seats, you have to escort prisoners to a safe zone. If a single prisoner dies, you lose the round, so protect them well. 5) Gas Alert is by far the coolest new gametype. Each player has a limited supply of air (about 30 seconds). Before they run out, they need to get to a terminal and "refill" their lungs. If you are gimped, you are totally screwed... Gone are the net code problems that one would typically associate with Athena Sword. In October 2008, the CD-key activation server was taken offline, suspending the multiplayer features of Iron Wrath.

Serious Sam II Croteam / 2K Games [top]

This sequel to the popular original, runs on the newly designed Serious 2 engine with graphics, environments and physics that are 100 times more complex than previous Serious Sam games. It maintains the same level of extreme action that Serious Sam is known for. Sam travels through various different worlds collecting parts of a medallion in an effort to defeat Mental, an extraterrestrial overlord who seeks to destroy humanity. The player begins with a certain number of lives that represent the number of times the player is allowed to lose all of his health and re-spawn immediately from the last saved checkpoint. There are over 40 beautiful, expansive levels spread out over 7 unique environments. Sam will travel through thick jungles, murky swamps, frozen tundra, futuristic cities, volcanic planets, and more. Each level is seriously enormous and there are 45 newly designed enemy types for Sam to face. The series is known for its outrageous enemy personalities, and it gives players a lot more to laugh about. There's also new vehicular and animal-back combat. Sam is guided by the Sirian Great Council and receives sporadic aid from the natives of the worlds he visits. Shades of Doom GMA Games [top]

This is a unique first-person shooter game, that completely abandons a visual aspect of its presentation. With the idea of creating a game being accessible for visually impaired people in mind, the developers have crafted a game, that communicates to the player solely through the medium of sound. The gameplay, however, remains completely faithful to the FPS genre guidelines. The game casts player in the role of a FDN (Federation of Democratic Nations) officer who is ordered to investigate a high security research facility. The communication with the base ceased 2 hours prior to player's arrival. His task is to investigate the matter and deal with whatever problem presents itself. The player has to explore nine separate levels of the base. To aid his cause he will be equipped with a medical kit, a few grenades, a gun, a knife, fists, and a computer to analyze his surroundings. On his way into the heart of the base, the player will find additional equipment such as better weapons and armor. To navigate through the levels player must rely on the various sounds. The echo of his footsteps will provide a vital clue as to the length of the passage ahead of him, and the sound of the wind will indicate an opening that may has appeared at player's sides. An approaching monster can be easily detected by his groaning, which gives away both the direction it is coming form and the distance. Player's portable computer EVA can optionally provide additional information as to his surroundings and status. To suit every gamer proficiency level the game offers five various difficulty settings. Additionally players can enable a visual representation of the area pictured as a top-view map. The game takes full advantage of the surround speaker system setup to convey the sound information in the most accurate way possible. However, it also features synthesized 3D effects for non-surround sound systems, that will grant every gamer the ability to properly determine the sources of game's sounds and successfully navigate the dark levels of Shades Of Doom.

Sniper Elite Rebellion Software / Namco Hometek / UbiSoft [top]

Spring 1945: World War II is drawing to a close and the Russians and Germans are caught in a furious battle for Berlin. The player takes the role of a German sniper recruited by the OSS (former CIA) to carry out a series of missions of vital importance against the NKVD in what should be considered as the first battle of the Cold War. It features a promising setting, previously ignored: Berlin, May 1945 - a time of transition between World War II and the Cold War, in a devastated Berlin. It's based on two types of gameplay closely intertwined: Stealth & Snipe. The art of stealth (3rdperson view) involves avoiding all the dangers in a deadly city, the player needs to infiltrate and find the best sniping position. The skill of sniping (1stperson view) is affected by various elements - distance, breathing, wind, timing, and techniques - empty lung, luring, etc. The single-player campaign takes place over 28 missions. Players use stealth tactics, and things like wind and background noise can be a factor when lining up shots. When a shot is performed particularly well, players are rewarded with a 'bullet cam' which follows the bullet in slow-motion from gun barrel to target. The game also includes a multi-player mode with a number of different game types. To reinforce the stealth aspect, there is a camouflage index measured in percentage that displays the visibility of the protagonist. You use several WWII-era weapons, including sniper rifles (Gewehr 43, SVT-40, Mosin-Nagant M91/30), a silenced pistol (Walther P38), submachine guns (MP 40, PPSh-41), machine guns (MG 42, DP), an anti-tank weapon (Panzershreck), and German and Soviet hand grenades (which can be also used to make tripwire boobytraps).

SpecForce / Chrome: SpecForce Techland / TopWare Interactive [top]

This futuristic tactical shooter with a plot connected to the already known Chrome uses an optimized Chrome Engine. The game is set in the future, when humanity, united in a Federation, begins to colonize subsequent planetary systems in search of natural resources and living space. Soon, the Federation's authorities, unprepared for the expansion, limit their actions to distributing the terraforming concessions among rivaling Exploring Corporations. Consecutive planets of the borderspace fall into the relentless rule of the mighty syndicates. The new worlds, devoid of the Federation's supervision, become a dreamland for criminal activity on a yet unseen scale. Humanity inevitably drifts towards anarchy. The situation is made even worse by the increasing number of cases of successful attacks on high representatives of the Federation's authorities, by terrorists organisation members aided with a yet unknown stimulus. The synthetic enzymes-based substance increases stamina, releases aggression and improves motorics. The results of the investigation indicate that the substance might have come from the laboratories of one of the terraforming corporations. The gamer acts as an operative of the future's special forces unit - SpecForce. Established to fight crisis situations that threaten the Federation's peace, equipped with the latest combat gear, the unit is the Federation's elite rapid reaction force. As the land is so big, there are also vehicles available like speeders, powerful Mecs or planes. On foot there are several futuristic weapons, from the TC234 Pistol to the GL Dragoon Rocket launcher. You are part of a unit, so you fight along with teammates, and you can give them simple orders to move around or attack. Special Forces: Nemesis Strike / CT Special Forces: Fire For Effect Asobo Studio / Hip Games [top]

At its console launch in 2001 the CT (Counter Terrorism) Special Forces licence met with immediate success on release. In this first PC venture, you belong to an elite force fighting against global counter-terrorism. Your team is made up of two crack agents poised to react to any threat. Stealth Owl is an infiltration expert, whose skills are accuracy and skydiving. Raptor uses weapons of mass destruction and favours close combat. Your main objective is to dismantle the NEMESIS network and retrieve the stolen technology. But by changing the chemical properties of certain proteins, the terrorists have made their fighters much more aggressive. The game benefits from a cutting edge game engine and a specific physics system. You can destroy any kind of environment, requisition military vehicles and feel right at the centre of the action. For the first time, physics will have a major impact on how you play the game. The weapons used in-game are the result of scientific research: amongst the varied arsenal are electromagnetic bombs and holographic gadgets to destabilise your enemies, LCD corner-shot machine guns, heat-seeking rocket launchers, drones, infra-red vision, sonar vision, etc.; brace yourself against the blast of each explosion. The dynamic effects on impacts, shock waves and explosions are extraordinary. Terrifying aerial combat in free fall requiring precision and a highly developed sense of direction. You can requisition vehicles and change tactics - use jeeps, boats, hovercrafts, etc. Superb AI has enemies react to situations, plan raids, retreats and strategic offensives.

Specnaz Antiterror: Afghanistan [Ru] GOG Games / Media Service 2000 [top]

During the decade-long Russian war in Afghanistan, which lasted from 1979 to 1989, to the war against the Mujahideen was sent more than a million Soviet soldiers and about fifteen thousand never returned home. After the withdrawal of troops from the country, there was a civil war, the Taliban came to power, and Al-Qaeda set up training grounds there, but that is, as they say, another story. In this alternate reality, the game asks what would have happened if Hafizullah Amin had nuclear weapons? Actually, first Hafizzula, who succeeded as president Mohammad Taraki (who took power by force from his predecessor Daut, who in turn staged a coup and overthrew his uncle), was loyal to the Soviet Union, but then his views changed dramatically. The task of finding and destroying the ill-fated rockets falls on the shoulders of the brave commandos. As weapons, you have the good loyal army knife stashed with a bunch of grenades, a holstered gun waiting in the wings, and an arsenal of rifles, Kalashnikov, a machine gun and a grenade launcher. And now the weapon can be used with virtually no restrictions, for ammunition scattered in corners is of sufficient quantity. As well, first-aid kits can be found almost in every third hut of a mountain village or small room in an intricate underground complex. Body armor is much less likely to come across, but without it you can still defeat the army. For fourteen single-player campaign missions, our brave warrior roams in search of missiles in caves, abandoned bunkers, bases and old engineering complexes, putting stacks on the floor of bearded gunmen. As before, to destroy all the enemies is not necessarily enough , you must find the right door or passage to go to the next level. Graphic design is traditionally done for the series, with the addition of a fair amount of open space (mountains, gorges, caves), which had not previously been observed. The voice of the protagonist is done by the author and host of the once popular show about computer games - Boris Repetur.

Specnaz Antiterror: Mission in the Balkans [Ru] GOG Games / Media Service 2000 [top]

After a showdown with the gangs of terrorists in Chechnya, fate throws an unnamed commando capable of pulverizing a couple of enemy regiments in Yugoslavia. A gang of unidentified extremists captures a large military complex, which is guarded by Russian special forces, and only the main character manages to survive. He now has to figure out the enemy's plans, report them to the authorities and manage to survive, waiting for the arrival of the saving helicopter. Get into an office building, the former headquarters of the once peace-keeping forces, crawl through the underground communications and ventilation systems to get their secret documents. By the way, the last, the 15th mission of the single player campaign will require a serious sprint because in order to get to the roof, you are given only a few minutes. Some surprises await like suddenly the floor falls from under your feet and you find yourself knee-deep in the mire of the sewer, or the explosion of a U-turn vent duct and instead of the path to salvation you can fall directly on the heads of terrorists. Most of the locked doors will be opened only in the event that the power is blown up and that is hidden in the most remote locations. Weapons and ammo are hard to come by, so games should be saved regularly.

Stargate SG-1: The Alliance (cancelled) Perception Studios [top]

This is based upon the events of the SG-1 seasons; the player is able to select their character for a mission and fulfill the roles of that character as seen in the TV show. The Alliance part of the name refers to the Alliance between Anubis and the new enemy, Haaken. The Haaken have never appeared in the TV show, they are a new alien race that was created by the developer's concept artists and game designers. The game is an FPS with an option for a third person perspective, consisting of objectives to be reached during various missions and levels. It used a modified version of the Unreal Engine 2004. A game video was on the Stargate Atlantis: Rising DVD. Work was stopped on the game in 2005. After a two year long legal battle with JoWood Productions, Perception won their fight in December 2007 with JoWood admitting they had no rights to the Stargate franchise. In fact, Perception has all rights to the Stargate SG-1: The Alliance game, and any further Stargate game releases. In 2012, gaming blog Past to Present Online began to release information about the game, including gameplay videos that revealed the storyline and mechanics.

Starship Troopers Strangelite Studio / Empire Interactive [top]

The game is set in the 'Starship Troopers' film universe and takes place about 5 years after then events of the second film. At the start of the game, the war against the Bugs is not going well; the bugs are rampaging across Hesperus - a planet perilously close to Earth. Colonised by man, Hesperus was once a haven of earthly tranquillity. Now, it is a terrifying battleground where the weaknesses of an implacable foe must be discovered and exploited. In a mix of 'mass action' and 'infiltration' levels it will be up to the player to make a difference in this titanic struggle and drive the arachnid invaders back into the depths of space. The player is a member of the elite 'Marauder Unit' - the 'Delta Force' or 'SAS' of the future. As such, they are supplied with upgraded weapons and equipment, enabling them to participate in commando-style raids and stealth missions as well as 'toe-to-toe' mass battles. This allows us to challenge the player with a wide variety of different game play situations and gives them the opportunity to unleash an extensive range of weapons with enormous destructive power. These range from the standard plasma rifle and shotgun to new and exciting weapons such as intelligent grenades and the infamous nuke launcher. Many of the 'classic film moments' will be included in the game but now the gamer is taking an active role. The troopers in the game know how to fight (and will do so), but if the bugs are to be defeated the player will have to work out how to defeat the 'Tanker Bug', defend 'Whiskey Outpost' and save their comrades from what seems to be certain death. The action, whilst being all planet based, takes part in a variety of settings - indoor and outdoor levels, including the wide open battlefields, a secret laboratory, claustrophobic bug nests, abandoned mines and lonely outposts. Missions vary from huge real-time battles on an epic scale to solo 'infiltration' type missions. As well as the Warrior, Hopper and Tanker seen in the movie the game will feature over 20 types of bug, all with their own unique characteristics.

Torrente, the renegade cop has returned, in film and videogames. Again he will fight crime in Madrid in first or 3rd person, but not a virtual Madrid. In this game, the streets of Madrid are exactly reflected and you can go to the Puerta del Sol and go to Plaza del Callao if you want. Santiago Segura, who portrays the cop in the film, recorded the voice of Torrente. The videogame and the movie was made at the same time (the movie went to cinemas 1 week before the game was released). This is the first time, in Spain, that a videogame and movie were developed at the same time. It was the third highest grossing film of the year in Spain, only being surpassed by Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

World War Zero Rebellion / Reef Entertainment [top]

Originally Iron Storm was launched exclusively on the PC in 2002. Rebellion was later invited to rework the game for the PS2 and then set about completely re-engineering and redesigning it from the ground up to create a unique FPS. This game was named Iron Storm: World War Zero. Now it's been ported to the PC. The story is of an alternate history where World War I never ended. It's the year 1964 and the enemy is not a German Kaiser but a man called Ugenberg who is the leader of the Russo-Mongolians and may be close to completing an atomic device. A coalition is hastily formed and, as Lieutenant James Anderson, the player is charged with infiltrating a series of Ungenberg's strongholds. Missions take the player from the Western Front, through the Anton Denikin Russo-Mongol front, into the occupied Wolfenburg and ultimately into the Berlin-based fission centre where the Ugenberg's experiments are nearing their conclusion. Kazakh Troops and Siberian Forces stand in your way and have differing AI and abilities, while the threat of gun turrets, mines, gas attacks and trench battles convey the horrors of a first World War battleground. Anderson is equipped with his trusty silenced Heckler and Koch MP-6, while additional and authentically-modelled weapons such as a Remington M910 shotgun, fragmentation and smoke grenades, plus sniper rifles can be collected along the way. Additions to the original game come in the form of support for anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering. The subtractions are the multiplayer modes which have been completely cut out, third-person view, and the majority of cutscenes. The levels have been also been reworked (and simplified in places) and the character models have also been improved.

BloodRayne 2 Terminal Reality / Majesco [top]

When we last saw BloodRayne in 1935, she joined forces with the shadowy Brimstone Society to destroy a supernatural Nazi bid for dominance. Her father, Kagan, an influential Nazi collaborator, was killed in an accident at the close of the War. Cheated of killing Kagan herself, Rayne has spent the last sixty years ferreting out and destroying his many offspring, her siblings. They have banded together and formed the Cult of Kagan, pledging to carry on his legacy of creating a new era of vampire supremacy where humans are mere cattle for the bloodthirsty predators that hunt them. BloodRayne's nefarious siblings have created "The Shroud", a mysterious substance which, when released, renders the sun's lethal rays harmless to vampires and twists nature into a nightmarish perversion. Now only BloodRayne stands between an unsuspecting humanity and a horrifying vampire dawn.

Burst Gunner [J] Ken-Ichi [top]

You steer your little spacecraft with the arrow keys, and you have three keys to shoot your primary weapon, to shoot your secondary weapon (a kind of bomb) and (attention!) to determine the angle of your secondary weapon. That's right, the game is in 3D, yet movement is restricted to 2 dimensions, so you don't have to worry about the height. Nevertheless your bomb can either be aimed to the ground or just fly above the ground with your primary weapon bullets. When you aim it to the ground, you can reach ground units like these small hovercrafts. This stands out because it is 3D, on the one hand. On the other hand, the design of the ships and enemies is nicely done and features a huge diversity. The game itself is action packed and fast, you will hardly have time to take a breath.

Cold Fear DarkWorks / UbiSoft Entertainment [top]

From the makers of Alone In The Dark 4 (even some of the same sounds were used), comes this game set in a dynamic environment on a stormy sea, including intense combat, intelligent enemies, and a high element of the shockingly unexpected. Your life jacket won't be sufficient! Players step into the role of Tom Hansen, a U.S. Coast Guard who is sent to board a drifting Russian whaling ship in the middle of a howling storm on the Bering Sea, who will discover there is no safe place here. Little does he know that a team of CIA operatives tried to board it shortly before, all of them ending up dead. Within minutes the entire Coast Guard team he is a part of shares their fate, except him. Now it's up to him to discover which kind of creatures wiped out his mates. Are there any survivors? What happened aboard this vessel? How does its recent visit to the Russian scientific drilling platform "Star of Sakhalin" fit in? On this constantly rocking and shifting ship and a mysterious oil rig, players must turn their interactive surroundings to their advantage to take down human enemies and enemies that aren't human any more - and save their own life. This game is a typical console-style action adventure, similar to games like the Silent Hill series. Most of the time players will be viewing the action from a third person point of view, following the character around as he utilizes an array of weapons to dispose of a variety of enemies. Occasionally, a puzzle has to be solved or a cutscene (rendered with the game's own engine) must be witnessed. Additional insight can be gained by reading the various notes, letters and diaries that can be picked up every now and then. The game employs a stamina bar, which decreases as the player performs certain actions, like running. In some instances, the ship rocks so much, and to such a great degree, that Hansen can get knocked down and potentially sent overboard. There are also many environmental hazards, like swinging electrical wires and crates hooked up to ropes, which are also affected by the swaying of the ship, and can easily crash into the player or enemies if they aren't careful. Waves crashing on to the ship's deck may also inflict damage on a player's health. The environmental hazards also effect enemies.

The player controls Tre, a new member of the Outlawz gang on his rise to the top within the fictional city of Grand Central. The Outlawz face trouble as rival Headhunterz and KYC gangs join forces against them. The members of the rap band D12 feature their voices and likenesses as the key members of the enemy Headhunterz gang. As well as featuring twenty-five story-based missions, Crime Life also gives the player the freedom to explore the game world and to experience mini-missions that include fighting whilst drunk and taking control of rival turf. Weapons include baseball bats, lead pipes, hammers and guns. The areas are relatively small but can prove useful when trying to locate your fellow gang members. Dark Vampires: The Shadows Of Dust / Dark Vampires 2 Wolfgroup / Asylum Games, IncaGold [top]

In this German rail shooter similar in play to Deadhunt, you are Jack Peter the mysterious vampire hunter who carries a dark secret himself. No one else can vanquish his opponents as relentlessly as he. With almost inhuman mercilessness he follows them and destroys them where and whenever he finds them. Now the "Dark Council" has notified the underworld that Jack Peter is "enemy of the state" number 1 and has sent armies of the undead after the head hunter. Now you are hunted by the angels of death, immortal beings of the darkness. They sweep over and over again from the empire of death to satisfy their thirst for human flesh. However, Jack Peter knows if he sends the angels of death back often enough to Hell, the gates can be closed forever and he will triumph. The game features 3 levels in 3D graphics, 2 degrees of difficulty, 3 realistic vampire models, a repetitive and irritating sounds and music. It is a very short game as well. It seems that in fact it was an early demo version and when Dark Vampires 2 was released it was in fact the full 10 level game. The main character now is able to run and jump, the enemies are not three, and there's six species, and five levels. In addition, there is a counter of number of "kills" and a gradual increase in complexity.

The story-driven action in Dead to Rights 2 promises "intense new gameplay mechanics including a lightning-paced 360-degree brawling system, vicious melee weapon battles and an innovative new spherical slow motion diving system." Driv3r Reflections Interactive / Atari [top]

Nine months separate the PC release of Driver 3 from the release of its critically pounded console counterparts. You might assume that the large gap between the borderline-broken console versions and the newly released PC edition was used to fix the game's serious problems but no. The Driver series is helmed by an undercover cop named Tanner. This time around, Tanner is trying to infiltrate a Miami-based car thief ring, which is working to steal 40 exotic cars and ship them out of Miami. Part of the game's story involves finding out who the thieves in the car ring are working for, where the cars are going, and who's double-crossing whom. You'll start out in Miami, eventually make your way to Nice for some French car chases, and you'll also spend some time in Istanbul. The story is mostly told via some good prerendered cutscenes. Driver 3's main mode is a linear, mission-based game that sends you on mission after mission until you've unraveled the game's story. Each mission has clear-cut objectives, like chasing after a guy who double-crossed your gang, stealing three cars and driving them into the back of a moving truck before the truck gets to its destination, or driving around on an enemy's turf and busting up the place by crashing through exploding barrels and other objects. You may be surprised to find yourself spending quite a lot of time out of your car, and that's where the first significant gameplay problem comes to light: The on-foot action is awful. Your control over Tanner is stiff, at best. You can fire weapons, you can halfheartedly jump, and you can duck to perform some pretty lame rolls. The gunplay, despite giving you access to a number of different pistols, submachine guns, an assault rifle, a shotgun, and a grenade launcher, is decidedly underwhelming. The combat in the game isn't tense at all, and it mostly consists of running up to enemies and blasting them... before they blast back. However, the game is pretty liberal with the health packs, so you can certainly trade shots with most of your foes without worrying too much. Since most of the game's artificial intelligence is incompetent, you can usually get the drop on the bad guys. Michael Madsen voices Tanner, Michelle Rodriguez is Calita and there's also Mickey Rourke, Iggy Pop, and Ving Rhames, who plays your partner in the game and narrates most of the cutscenes. There's over 60 drivable vehicles, including motorcycles, boats, police cars, vans, mopeds, muscle cars and 18-wheelers, all fully destructible. There's also a mission called "The Hit" found only on DRIV3R's PC release. The Film Director Mode is one of the DRIVER brand's most popular aspects - gamers can record the action using multiple camera views, and edit original chase sequences which can be played back and stored.

FPS Creator Game Creators [top]

Over three years in development, FPS Creator sets a new benchmark in the game creation market by providing an easy-to-use yet highly flexible editing environment. As its name implies this is a tool for creating action-packed FPS games with no programming or 3D modelling knowledge required. Using an intuitive and visual Windows interface you literally paint your game world into the scene. A vast range of 3D elements are included allowing you to paint hallways, corridors, gantries, walls, doors, access tunnels, ceilings, lifts, transporters, ladders and more. Segments intelligently attach themselves to each other - paint two corridor pieces side-by-side and they'll snap together seamlessly. Switch to 3D mode and you drop in on your scene for pixel perfect placement of 3D entities. Place a light-switch on the wall and it'll intelligently control the dynamic lighting in the room. Import your own media (sounds, 3D models, textures, shaders). One click and it builds you a final stand alone exe file. Not everyone has the skill to create their own 3D content before starting to build a game - which is why it comes with two theme packs: Sci-fi and World War 2. There are over 300 segment building blocks included, over 500 entity objects (such as desk lamps, health packs, crates), 62 different fully animated enemies, 36 weapons and 66 different AI scripts to control them all. The manual also includes guides on importing your own media to create prefabs, weapons, segments and entities. You don't have to use the 3D objects given to you, adding your own is quick and easy. Changing the textures the models use is just as painless, so you could take one of the supplied barrel models and re-texture it to create any number of them all in your own style. As of 2010, there are 38 additional model packs available for the software. A version for DirectX 10 and Vista named FPS Creator X10 was offered in 2007 that allowed for visually stunning effects including parallax relief mapping, bloom, reflection, refraction, volume soft shadows and soft particle shader effects to be under your control. It had advanced AI Character Behaviours - both hostile or friendly, and it took advantage of Dual Core and Quad Core CPU technology. Also, it allowed game action above and below water. Players can run, leap, swim, dive and even affect the water level.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Rockstar Games / Take-Two Interactive Software [top]

The follow-up to the immensely popular Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City draws upon a conceptual style reminiscent of the popular 1990s gangsta films like Boyz in the Hood and Juice. Five years ago Carl Johnson escaped from the pressures of life in Los Santos, San Andreas...a city tearing itself apart with gang trouble, drugs and corruption. Where filmstars and millionaires do their best to avoid the dealers and gangbangers. Now, it's the early 90s. Carl's got to go home. His mother has been murdered, his family has fallen apart and his childhood friends are all heading towards disaster. On his return to the neighborhood, a couple of corrupt cops frame him for homicide. CJ is forced on a journey that takes him across the entire state of San Andreas, to save his family and to take control of the streets. The game will be about 5 times the size of Vice City and features a 50% increase in polygons. There are actually three cities in San Andreas based on real life locations like San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas. They are all interconnected with miles of interconnected freeways, deserts, mountains, rivers, and more. Communities are a lot more believable; civilians go around with purpose. You'll notice customers drive up to a pizza shop, park (and sometimes crash), enter the Pizza place, order some food, eat it and get on with the rest of their duties. It's entirely possible to drive from one end of the county to the other without ever seeing a loading screen (only a slight one whenever you enter an interior location) thanks to enhancements made to the streaming technology. Riding a bike in GTA is going to provide a lot of fun, whether it be nipping down a tight alley to avoid pursuers or hurtling down the infamous mountain range that apparently takes close to 30 minutes to cycle up. There is now the ability to customise CJ through the food he eats, the clothes he wears and his choice of haircut. There are consequences if you don't eat or eat too much. Additionally, CJ can now swim, has improved hand-to-hand combat skills, has the ability to recruit NPCs to follow him in his gang, can wear various new outfits, and can work out at a gym to become stronger. CJ can even improve specific player attributes and skills. There will be on-rails shooting segments where we have to gun people down while literally riding shotgun in a car that someone else is driving. There are also gambling mini-games of unknown type that apparently makeup a fully operational casino. More cab-missions (pizza deliveries, ambulance driving stuff, vigilante stuff, et cetera) will also be included. Side-missions also now help develop "skills" for use in later plot-critical missions.
Due to political uproar over a user-made Hot Coffee mod which allowed hidden simulated sexual scenes in the game to be viewed, the video ratings board forced the removal of all copies of San Andreas from stores. A 2nd version was then released on September 20th which complied with the M rating and had the offending code removed.

Hard Truck: Apocalypse / Hard Truck: Apocalyptic Wars / Ex Machina Targem Games / Buka Entertainment / CDV [top]

In a post-apocalyptic world that is slowly trying to rebuild itself, you play a young man setting out on his own for the first time. In a similar style to the classic Elite, you start off with a basic, poorly armored vehicle (in this case, a truck) and then what you do is largely up to you.
There is a central storyline that you can follow at your leisure, but apart from that you are free to travel around, exploring the scenery, trading between the small towns and outposts that have sprung up, taking on delivery, escort or bounty-hunting missions and fighting off vicious raiders and nomads at every turn.
You can repair and refuel your vehicle at gas-stations, take missions in bars and, as you build up your money, you will be able to upgrade your truck with a better cab and chassis and more destructive weaponry. Eventually, you'll be able to buy a whole new vehicle.
As you progress through the game, you'll find out some truths about the world and yourself, and your mode of transport will look less like a truck and more like a battleship on wheels.
The game features action and RPG elements in third person view, letting players earn money, trade and upgrade their truck, featuring over 30 types of weapons, 4 large bosses and 12 small bosses.

House Of The Dead III Wow Entertainment / SEGA [top]

PC gamers can expect an exciting new adventure plus an all-new shotgun weapon in this console port of this 2002 game of the popular series. Players will be able to mow down multiple enemies in a single blast as they plough their way through the most exhilarating House of the Dead yet. The storyline finds Thomas Rogan - the hero from the first game, missing and his daughter, Lisa Rogan, mounting a daring mission to find him. She must team up with his former partner to survive the horrors holding her father captive, and escape in one piece. From elaborate underground labs to devastated cityscapes, players must wage war on wave after wave of horrific zombies complete with beautifully rendered guts and gore. PC owners will particularly enjoy the new time-sensitive one or two-player gameplay along with a vast web of branching storylines. Depending on how fast your trigger finger is, players advance the storyline by uncovering new secrets and hidden areas along the way. Time is now a factor - dead-eye aim won't mean much unless gamers have the quick trigger-finger to back it up. There are new storylines for both single and cooperative modes. The shotgun used in the game no longer requires the traditional "point off-screen" reload, but rather reloads automatically.

When they explode robots will often drop power-ups or ammo. To progress to new levels you must reach a certain amount of points. There are also 6 multi-play modes and 2 instant-action modes available, and the 3rd person action makes sure there is plenty of variation in gameplay terms. In 3rd person the girls carry effective but 'ordinary' weapons such as a machinegun, grenadelauncher or sniper: But once inside one of the dozen available cars the mass-destruction weapons become available. Vulcan-cannons, Multi-missiles, homing rockets, mines and even airstrikes are yours to use or abuse. The game soundtrack is featured by the gothic metal band Theatre of Tragedy, from their album "Musique".

Once again blurring the lines between Hollywood and interactive entertainment, it will feature the likenesses of all of the films' key actors -- including Keanu Reeves (Neo), Laurence Fishburne (Morpheus), Carrie-Ann Moss (Trinity), Hugo Weaving (Agent Smith) and Jada Pinkett-Smith (Niobe). As Neo, the choices the player makes to resolve each scenario and the resulting consequences may have a different result than the original films. Alternative scenarios filled with new characters, content and storylines have all been written and planned by the Wachowski Brothers to expand the Matrix universe and overall gaming experience. Gamers will assume the role of Neo from when, as Thomas Anderson, he gets the cell phone in the package from Morpheus, to the flying street battle in the rain against Agent Smith. To truly immerse the gamer in the Matrix universe, the game will feature a Director's Cut of the original movie footage from all three films and The Animatrix as cinematic sequences to progress the story told from Neo's perspective. The player will use martial arts, medieval weapons and guns (lots of guns) to take on a variety of enemies, such as heavily armed SWAT officers; Agents of the Matrix, including Agent Smith; and Exiles in the employ of the Merovingian. To help prepare for these battles, there are several training levels which Neo must complete. The game will have enhanced "Bullet Time" special effects from the films and allow gamers to dodge bullets, jump off walls and defy gravity and logic to recreate its most memorable scenes.

Obscure: Learn About Fear HydraVision / Microids / DreamCatcher [top]

Inspired by the teen horror genre, made popular by a number of recent movies and primetime TV shows, Obscure follows a group of 5 American students as they try to unravel the mysterious happenings and disappearances that keep occurring at their school. Through the long eerie corridors and dark hallways of Leafmore, Shannon, Kenny, Ashley, Stan and Josh will come to learn that the night will be long and survival not easy. There's a unique multiplayer option, a "hot plug and play" feature, meaning a second player can join or leave the game at any time, a never before seen feature in this genre. There are interchangeable characters - switch between characters at any time with the 2nd character being controlled by either a second player or the game's innovative A.I. Customise the way you play with each student having unique skills. A mutual aid system gives interactivity between characters during fights, inventory management, and riddle solving. You can set the behavior of the A.I. controlled follower to attack, defend, or help. There are several basic types of weapons used in the game: contact (a baseball bat for instance), pistols, guns, and more exotic, high-powered "special" weapons. Ammunition is specific for each gun or pistol and is not interchangeable. Weapons can be swapped between characters and ammunition found is stored in the group's reserves for sharing amongst them. The player will also be gathering up first-aid kits, discs (for saving games), keys, screwdrivers and other tools. Other objects are required for solving riddles within the game.

Punisher, The Volition Inc. / THQ [top]

Fueled by the murder of his family, Frank Castle, AKA The Punisher, sets out on a mission to clean up the crime filled streets in a storyline derived from the popular comicbook and recent movie adaptation. The ingenious writings of Punisher creators Jimmy Palmiotti and Garth Ennis combined with Volition Inc.'s visual interpretation gives players an opportunity to step into the vengeful shoes of The Punisher. Never seen in a game, an innovative interrogation system allows gamers direct control over the amount of punishment enemies receive before releasing important information. With more than 100 unique kills, The Punisher promises to deliver hours of jaw dropping vigilante justice. Thomas Jane, titular star of the film version of The Punisher voices the game character though visually it is modeled more on the comicbook character. The game features many cameo appearances from Marvel Comics characters, such as Iron Man, Nick Fury, Black Widow, Matt Murdock (the alter ego of Daredevil), Bushwacker, The Kingpin and Bullseye. The 3rd person action shooter seems to be yet another similar game to Max Payne. Due to the extreme violence, it was threatened with an AO rating. To receive an M rating, it was toned down by making the "Special Interrogation" scenes black-and-white, removing blood from interrogation scenes and some quick kills.

Second Sight gives players control of a character endowed with incredible psychic abilities. The game offers multiple approaches to completing levels either via stealth, dramatic gunplay, psychic powers or a combination of all three. The ability to psychically influence characters and remotely manipulate objects and individuals provides for a totally fresh gameplay dynamic. The game opens with John Vattic, the player-controlled lead character, as he awakens from a coma in a US medical facility where he has been subjected to traumatic surgery and experimentation. He doesn't know his name, he can't remember his past, all he knows is that his only hope for survival is to escape and unravel the mystery that has led to his imprisonment. Haunted by flashbacks, which are experienced as fully playable episodes within the game, and shocked by the discovery of his own psychic powers, the player takes Vattic on a search for his past and, in doing so, uncovers a fatal chain of events leading to a sinister conspiracy. As Vattic explores his present and past, the game weaves between these two different time periods, which run through the game as a dual-narrative. The player-controlled actions of the past Vattic have consequences in the present, allowing a unique interaction between the player and the narrative of the game as Vattic's destiny is changed.

Stubbs The Zombie in Rebel Without A Pulse Wideload / Aspyr [top]

From a new development team comprised of Alexander Seropian and former Bungie Studio employees and powered by an updated Halo engine, this third-person action game lets you play as a zombie named Stubbs. Stubbs can use his undead body as a weapon, possess characters, and eat his enemies' brains to make them join his army. Equipped with his rotten carcass, the ability to turn his foes into fellow zombies, and the use of weaponry confiscated from the enemies he possesses in his plight, Stubbs needs to work his way through numerous, highly-original indoor and outdoor environments reminiscent of 1950's sci-fi movies. During his conquest, Stubbs will face off against such classic 1950's anti-heroes as "mad scientists, rural militiamen and the world's deadliest barbershop quartet". The advantage of being a zombie is that players can rely on Stubbs' rotting body parts for offensive weapons. Amongst the hero's personal bag of tricks are explosive gut grenades, a remote-controlled severed hand, and flatulence powerful enough to overtake any of the platoons in this original new title. :-P

Cholo Ovine by Design [top]

A classic Robo-Cyperpunk adventure. Here's a great re-make using the Blitz3D engine of an old favorite. 'Cholo' is based on a memorable cyberpunk game of the same name released in the late 80's, but this time around everything has been rebuilt with new Tron-like graphics and exciting, upgraded levels. Master the droids and free your people. Cholo is a both an adventure game and first person shooter, and your goal is to free the people of Cholo city from their refuge bunkers, where they've been hiding for hundreds of years. Get ready for some serious fun as you guide your helper robot through the postapocalyptic mire. What you steer and control are robots, and theres a whole lot of them: shooting robots, slow "hacking" robots, flying ones, etc. The story is somewhat complicated and tells the story of a future world in which Jared lives. The whole story is not presented in the game, but rather in a novella, which can be read in-game or on the webpage of Cholo. This game has a huge world for you to explore. The game play is fantastic and bizarre.

All aboard. It's time to blow up some stuff. But of course, it's not all fun and war games out there on the high seas - there's a job to be done. So work through thirty levels of difficult simulation in this fantastic free 3D game. The game itself is incredibly impressive, featuring an array of enemies, from ships to planes to seeking self-detonators over the course of the levels. To defend yourself, you're equipped with a selection of weapons - alternate with right click. The first is the normal rockets. You have three and they have a great reach when you aim upwards. The second weapon is a machine-gun. Use this on close-quarters enemies to finish them off. The third (and most glorious) is additional rockets. When a lot of enemies need a swift kick, hit this and launch skyward an array of heat seeking missiles. You'll need to defend yourself against the planes which swoop overhead, the torpedoes gliding underfoot and the many other deadly weapons headed your way. With thirty levels playable on four difficulties each, this excellent game comes highly, highly recommended.

Battle Carry A Few Screws Loose (AFSL) [top]

Battle Carry is an action oriented deathmatch game featuring high speed tanks and powerful secondary weapons. There are two teams of tanks bent on mutual destruction. There are several game modes available in the game: deathmatch, team deathmatch, and a objective mode where each team attempts to control locations on the map (like Battlefield 2). The third game mode opens up the possibility of some team strategy in the game; since locations are captured instantaneously, you must guard each location in order to win. The maps are also large enough so that you can't run across the map in time to save the last base your team holds. Since the maps have varied elevations, there is usually at least one location that overlooks each base from a height, so you could watch the base from a distance and engage enemy tanks on their way in. The graphics are simplistic 3-D levels with lots of bumps and numerous changes in elevation. There is a good selection of environments in the game (there are 11 different levels), showing off at least some variety of locations and some different buildings in the game. The game features four different tanks to control, each with slightly different stats, suiting different driving styles. Every tank has the main cannon standard on most armored vehicles, and can obtain up to five secondary weapons at a time. They include rocket launchers, rapid-fire cannons, mines, guided missiles, flamethrowers, mortars, and air strikes. You can also get several power-ups that resupply ammunition or armor.

You control one of the two helicopters that are available in the main menu. One is a quick but weak helicopter, the other is slower but stronger. The game feels like an arcade game, since you have to shoot down countless attack waves from all types of enemy fighters and bombers. Bombers are the most dangerous ones, since they are hard to shoot down (require a special homing rocket) and destroy anything on their path. Bonuses can be picked up by shooting silly zeppelins that float nearby. Goal of the game is to accomplish all levels, to survive as long as possible and to get the best high score.

This is a sci-fi action game where the player controls a space ship. Aliens want to conquer the earth and the player needs to prevent this. But this story is subsidiary, the main focus of the game lies in the space exploration. As most space games it is played in a first person perspective with various information displayed in the cockpit. The combat is action oriented but there still are many buttons to press. During the game the player wants to become stronger which means buying better gear or build new ships. This costs money and the player is free to choose how to earn it. He can trade between several space stations, search for mineral resources, become a merchant or a pirate. The game also features a reputation system which means attacking other ships without a good reason results in a hostile reaction when meeting other sips or visiting a space station in the same system. When the player has to fight pirates himself a good reputation can save his life - when friendly ships are nearby they may choose to help him out if they like him enough.

Lock On: Flaming Cliffs Eagle Dynamics [top]

Flaming Cliffs is an expansion to the game Lock On: Modern Air Combat. It was developed independently by the Eagle Dynamics after the original publisher Ubisoft decided to no longer fund the project. Therefore this add-on was called "unofficial", even though it was sold both as a download and in retail, and it was later included in the Lock On Gold compilation. The game is a highly realistic combat flight simulator and includes all features of the original Lock On: Modern Air Combat. It adds the Su-25T as a player-flyable aircraft and introduces training missions with voice-over instruction. The three new campaigns are the most important addition. The player can take part in a conflict between Russia and the NATO Georgia alliance as a Russian Su-25T pilot in twenty missions. After Russia had to hand back several bases to NATO in Abkhazia, Georgia took control of the region with a bloody operation, adding the troubled regions of Ingooshetia, Ossetia and Karachai-Circassian to the unending war in Chechnya. This leads to a large military confrontation with the NATO that secretly defies its neutral position by providing terrorists with arms and funding to push back Russia. The other campaigns have the player fly in a Su-27 (26 missions) and a MiG-29 (28 missions).

Master Burner [J] DNA Softwares [top]

Master Burner is more than just an After Burner clone - in some ways, it's almost a little bit better. It was released in a packaging spoofing the Sega Ages 2500 line (dubbed "Touhou Ages" here), and replaces the generic F-14 Fighting Falcon with Marisa Kirisame, the yellow haired witch from a variety of Touhou shooters. Many of the landscapes are similar, although some take place in unique locales like libraries. All of the enemies have been replaced with fairies and little comets that have that goofy little grimacing face you see on Japanese message boards. And all of the smoke trails have been replaced with colorful streams of transparent stars. And it's almost a perfect replication. Things seem to control just a little bit differently - the controls are a bit faster, and the landscape seems to zoom by a bit faster than it did in After Burner. It gets even hairier when you hit the Turbo button, although it doesn't seem like you can barrell roll. And while you'll still rely heavily on missiles, your standard vulcan cannon is actually far more useful than it ever was before. Your missile supply is still limited, although it partially recharges after each stage, and gets fully replenished every few levels by Reimu Hakurei, one of the stars of many Touhou games. Once again there are bonus stages where you need to fly between different obstacles while shooting static objects on the ground. However, there are now boss battles with various other Touhou characters, that play out similarly to the end-of-level encounters found in Space Harrier.

Fly on the Eastern Front for the Red Airforce, Luftwaffe, Royal Air Force and the French Regiment Normandie-Niemen in 24 campaigns. MURMANSK - The northern Russian port of Murmansk is the only ice-free port available for the vital Lend-Lease convoy route. The Germans are pressing closer and the Red Airforce fights tooth and nail to stop the bombers, aided by the RAF’s 151 Wing. Slowly the tables are turned and the Russians start to advance on the German bases in Finland and Norway. KURLAND - The Germans are retreating across Poland and the Baltic States when a bold Russian thrust cuts off the German Army Group North from the rest of the Wehrmacht, trapping hundreds of thousands of men. The Germans re-establish a land corridor and continue their retreat but the Russians, aided by a French fighter regiment, reach the Baltic once again and this time there is no escape. The Kurland pocket fights bitterly to the end of the war, isolated but impregnable. SCHLACHTFLIEGER - Bonus campaign - fly the Hs-123 biplane (uses Cr-42) in low-level strafing and bombing missions. The aircraft is well-suited to the Blitzkrieg of 1941 but how will it fare in 1944?
